How can you ensure transparency within marine fuel bunkering?

The Port of Rotterdam and other Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) ports were considering making Mass Flow Metering Systems (MFMS) mandatory at the start of 2022. For now, it has proven too complex to establish a licensing scheme that covers the entire ARA region.

However, ExxonMobil has implemented MFMS onboard its bunkering barges in ARA, France, Singapore and Hong Kong. They are fully accredited and certified by an independent third party, ensuring transparent marine fuel bunkering.

During this period of uncertainty, the advice to vessel operators remains the same: ask your fuel suppliers what they are doing to enhance bunker transparency.

Click here to watch our Marine Fuels Technical Advisor, Armelle Breneol, explain this in more detail.
