ExxonMobil has added Mobil SHC™ Aware™ Hydraulic Series oils and Mobil SHC™ Aware™ Grease Series to its range of high-performance marine lubricants. Both are formulated to meet the US Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements for Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs)¹ and EU Ecolabel, making them ideal for deck and underwater machinery operating in areas where environmental protection regulations are in force. The lubricants offer excellent protection, even in challenging marine operating conditions.
Mobil SHC Aware Hydraulic Series can be used in hydraulic winches, ramps, hatches, doors, cranes, pumps, and other deck equipment. Its balanced formulation helps to deliver a range of performance benefits, including:
Mobil SHC Aware Hydraulic Series oils have the potential to improve hydraulic efficiency, compared with ExxonMobil’s standard hydraulic fluids³. The lubricants can also protect system components against wear and scuffing, which can deliver long equipment life and reduce maintenance between dry docks.
Mobil SHC Aware Grease Series is especially suitable for use in rudder stocks. Benefits include:
“Vessel operators increasingly need lubricants that combine high performance with regulatory compliance – that’s why we are adding Mobil SHC Aware Hydraulic Series and Mobil SHC Aware Grease Series to our range of EALs,” said Frans Horjus, global marine lubricants sales manager at ExxonMobil. “The lubricants provide outstanding performance across a range of applications, safeguarding equipment against unscheduled maintenance and associated costs.”

1. Environmentally acceptable lubricants are defined in the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) as lubricants that are biodegradable, minimally toxic and non-bioaccumulative
2. Compared with conventional mineral lubricants
3. Hydraulic efficiency relates solely to the fluid performance when compared with ExxonMobil's standard hydraulic fluids. The technology used provides up to 3.6% efficiency compared with ExxonMobil’s standard hydraulic fluids when tested in an Eaton 25VMQ vane pump under controlled conditions in accordance with applicable industry standards and protocols. Efficiency improvements will vary based on lubricants previously used, operating conditions, and application.
