The Mobil Serv℠ Oil Drain Optimization Program is designed to help enhance the lubricant operation of marine high speed engines. Paired with Mobilgard™ HSD/HSD+ engine oils and Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis, the program can help to safely and efficiently extend engine oil life and reduce total operating costs.
Service summary
The Mobil Serv℠ Oil Drain Optimization Program has been developed to help operators of high speed engine vessels select the right engine lubricants and optimise oil drain intervals. It is based on insights from ExxonMobil’s Mobil Serv℠ Lubricant Analysis, which reveal that many high speed engines are not running as efficiently as they can. A review of our data shows that up to 75% of engines have their oil changed in line with standard OEM recommendation. However, of that number just 11% actually need an oil change, according to oil analysis results. Clearly, many operators are not optimising their engine oil drain interval, a costly problem that our Mobil Serv Oil Drain Optimization Program is designed to address.
The program is backed up by our dedicated lubricant engineers with support from ExxonMobil technical experts to achieve the best possible outcomes.
How the program works
The first step is a preliminary study of the fleet to gauge the overall suitability of the program. We will also discuss business objective(s) to ensure that the recommended solution is tailored to meet the specific operating conditions and needs of the customer. Our recommendations will include three elements:
• Lubricant selection
• Optimal oil drain interval
• Used oil sampling schedule
The next step will be conduct field demonstrations in one or two vessels to validate the guidance prior to a controlled rollout across other vessels in the fleet with similar operating conditions. The oil’s in-service performance will be regularly monitored using our next generation lubricant monitoring program, Mobil Serv℠ Lubricant Analysis (MSLA).
Unique oil analysis insights
ExxonMobil has more than 300,000 high speed engine data sets from our used oil analysis service (with over 1,800 from marine applications), which provide us with a unique set of insights. Armed with this information we can develop up-to-date recommendations based on real-world experience.
